Richard Allen Pence has died

It saddens me to report the passing of Dick Pence. He died of a heart attack on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009. Dick was very helpful to me, and to the Stray Leaves community, in sorting through the Pence families who are related to the James, more socially than as kin. Here’s Dick’s biography, as it appears on  his Pence family… (more…)

Jesse James’ Hidden Treasure – Chapter 5 Deconstructed

DOWNLOAD a deconstruction of Chapter Five, taken from the transcript of the History program Jesse James’ Hidden Treasure. Just when you thought you couldn’t digest any more turkey after Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, we’re serving up another generous plateful of funny turkey with all the trimmings for dessert.  All courtesy of those whacky kooks – excuse me – cooks, Ron Pastore,… (more…)

Don’t look for history at what used to be The History Channel

Following the blistering negative comments made all over the web about the recent program Jesse James’ Hidden Treasure, the other day I posted the following to my blog on the True West magazine web site, trying to explain why audiences no longer should expect to see bone fide history on what formerly was The History Channel. Some interesting comments were… (more…)

Attn. Spinsters – Marry, or Go to Jail

The James family has a number of spinsters and bachelors who have never married. While researching recently, I came across a newspaper item in the Harrodsburg (Ky.) Herald from 1909. A line of the James family lived in and around Harrodsburg at the time, and some still do today. The paper editorialized that the town’s spinsters and bachelors should marry… (more…)

Jesse James’ Hidden Treasure – Deconstructing Chapter Three

DOWNLOAD a deconstruction of Chapter Three taken from the transcript of the History Channel’s program Jesse James’ Hidden Treasure. The file is in .pdf format, and already contains initial commentary. As the fakery of this broadcast continues to be dissected, it appears others also have taken a dim view of the program. Other Jesse James interest groups have dismissed the… (more…)

To the left of the… (more…)

jesse james’ hidden treasure

I was appalled with this program on the History Channel. This program was something that should have been on Looney Tunes, not the History Channel. This entire program was based on speculation and treasure hunting myths. At no time was there any objective history shown throughout this program. Why would Jesse James spend time hiding treasure in Kansas?  Kansas and… (more…)

New Found Line of John Bunyan James 1914-2006

A picture like this is irresistable. Moreso, when you learn these are long lost James family cousins. Well, maybe with the exception of the giant with the long ears in the middle. Then again, who knows? This is Jennifer Lee James-Sepaniak and her lovely family. Jennifer’s grandfather is John Bunyan James, himself a grandson of John James of Alvarado, Texas, through… (more…)

Leafblower – really blowing your cool!

I was shocked that your post about Mr. Ganis’ account of Jesse James was so weak and inflammatory. Your family has tried for so many years to prove you are even related, while Mr. Ganis is well-known for his years of intensive historical research and his authentic Jesse James collection. Sounds like you have a case of inferiority. With Mr.… (more…)
