Book Signing & The Zee James Collection

Who knew Charlie Pitts intended to marry Jesse James’ sister, Susan Lavenia James? The answer was found in the Zee James Collection.

“August 10, 1876, My Darling Suz. I have pondered long for the love if your embrace. I am taken with the thoughts of our union. I told of Maw Pitts of our plans and she is beside herself. Worry not for I will come for you soon. Charley.”

This was just one of the revelations arising in a hand written note from the discovery of the Zee James Collection in Stamping Ground, Kentucky.

Join me, Eric F. James, on December 7, 2013, at the Historic Midway Museum Store, 124 E. Main St. in Midway, Kentucky to learn more. It’s free. I’ll also be signing my book, Jesse James Soul Liberty.

ZEE MIMMS JAMES AUTHENTIC PHOTOS ANIMATED . . . Zee was named after Jesse’s mother, Zerelda Cole. Zee and Jesse were first cousins. John M. James was grandfather to them both. Despite the strong family tie, most of the family disapproved of their marriage. Their uncle, Rev. William James a Methodist minister and himself a black sheep among the James, married Zee and Jesse. Zee bore Jesse five children. Two lived to adulthood. A set of twins died soon after birth. A fifth child was miscarried. Zee died at age 55 of neurasthenia, a condition characterized by lassitude, fatigue, headache, and irritability, associated chiefly with emotional disturbance.
